Independent Living Service is a part of City of Wolverhampton Councils Social care service with a team of Occupational Therapist, Visual Rehabilitation Officers and Hearing Impairment Technician.
The service provides assessments for equipment and adaptions to help people with the tasks of daily living. The most common adaptations needed are:
Grab rails inside the home
A bath/shower seat or other aids to use
A shower to replace the bath
A special toilet seat
Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs)
For more complex problems, major adaptations, e.g. a stair lift or level access shower, may be recommended.
In this case following assessment by the Independent Living Services Occupational Therapist you will be referred to the Home Improvement Agency at Wolverhampton Homes and may be considered for a Disabled Facilities Grant (subject to means test) if you are a homeowner, or a private tenant. Different financial arrangements apply for tenants of Wolverhampton Homes.
These are some of the areas which can be considered:
access to the home and garden
making the premises safer
access to a principal family room or bedroom
access to a toilet
access to bathing facilities
