Samhain (a Gaelic word pronounced “SAH-win”) is usually celebrated from October 31 to November 1 to welcome in the harvest and usher in “the dark half of the year.” Celebrants believe that the barriers between the physical world and the spirit world break down during Samhain, this is referred to as “the thinning of the veil.”
Samhain marks the mid-point of the season, where a shift in energy can be seen and felt. We have moved past the Equinox, into Autumn, and started to welcome in the darker part of the year, and Wheel of the Year.
Energy turns inward and downward rather than outward.
It is a time to acknowledge and honour the coming to an end of some things. In essence Samhain celebrates death, and reminds us of the turning wheel of life, the cycle of life – from birth to death to rebirth.
Many Blessings x
