DESCRIPTION:Tai Chi classes for those aged 50+  – to improve mobility\, health and wellbeing. \nEvery Wednesday: 10am – 11am \nat: All Saints Church\, All Saints Road\, Wolverhampton.  WV2 1EL \nand from 6th September 2023: \n12pm – 1pm  \nat: The Institute\, Wood Road\, Tettenhall Wood\, WV6 8NF \nNo previous experience of Tai Chi is needed – these are beginners classes. \nPlease wear comfortable clothing and shoes. \nSeated Tai Chi can be provided if required. \n£5 per class – booking not required \nTai Chi is a Chinese exercise system which is used for relaxation and to help improve general balance. \nOur sessions generally comprise of loosening exercises\, Tai Chi walking\, learning the Chen Man Ching form\, finishing with Chi Gung. \nTai Chi has a number of health benefits\, including the improvement of: \n\nFlexibility\nPosture and balance\nCo-ordination\nStamina/cardiovascular health\nBlood pressure levels\nBody awareness\nIntrinsic strength\n\nOur instructor\, Philip Shelton\, has been teaching Tai Chi for over twenty years\, being taught by Mark Peters and Kaiming. \nPhilip has been instructed to teach Tai Chi for arthritis and for rehabilitation and is also a member of the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain.

DESCRIPTION:Join Birmingham Mind for our first ever Mental Elf 5km fun run on Sunday 3rd December at Cannon Hill Park!\n\n\nWe’re excited to launch our first ever Mental Elf 5km event!  \nMental Elf is a festive family fun run for everyone. It focuses on bringing people together to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing. It promotes the benefits of physical activity\, connecting with people and doing something to help others whilst fundraising for Birmingham Mind. \nTake part in our 5km family fun run at Cannon Hill Park  \nYou can choose to walk\, jog\, skip or run the 5km park run route. The event is open to all ages and abilities\, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Discounts are available for family and group/corporate teams. Elf fancy dress is very much encouraged!  \nSign up to take part!  \nIf you’re just as excited as us then you can get signed up NOW and take advantage of our current “Eager Elf” discounted tickets. Eager Elf tickets will be available until 5pm on Friday 20th October. \nTicket price includes \n-﻿ Registration and running number \n– ﻿Pre event warm up \n– ﻿Mental Elf 2023 Medal for all finishers \n-﻿ Goody bag \nThe location  \nThe Mental Elf fun run will take place in Cannon Hill Park\, starting and finishing near the band stand. \nFundraising  \nWhilst fundraising isn’t compulsory for this event\, we would encourage each person taking part to reach a target of £20. SUMMARY:Running for Life:  Supporting Mental and Physical Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:This free (in-person) event is funded by Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). It explores the vital role ‘running’ has on wellbeing.\n\n\n\nAre you interested in running but don’t know where to start? Are you a runner who sometimes lacks motivation to run? Are you keen to find out how running might contribute to wellbeing? Join this event to share experiences and explore answers. \nThis in-person  event will be held in the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) in Cannon Hill Park. You will have the opportunity to participate in ‘Cannon Hill parkrun’ prior to the event should you wish to do so or simply watch parkrunners running past the MAC before you arrive at the  first session of the event which will start at 10:00.  \nThere will be three sessions. The  first session will feature a short talk and a discussion focusing on how runners’ stories can be motivational and inspiring and how they can help us understand the ways in which running can contribute to mental and physical wellbeing. The second session will involve some interactive activities on ‘parkrun’\, the internationally-known free running event which takes place every Saturday morning in a multitude of venues in over 20 countries\, and in more than 1\,200 venues in the UK alone. Whether you are a parkrunner or not\, it will be your opportunity to find out how impactful parkrun can be on our wellbeing. The final session of the event will feature a round table discussion with a panel of guest speakers discussing how running outdoors can support mental and physical wellbeing.  \nThe event will be led by Dr Nur Kurtoglu-Hooton\, member of Aston Research Centre for the Humanities  (REACH) and Aston Centre for Applied Linguistics (ACAL)\,  researching social\, cultural and digital characteristics of running communities. She is an avid runner and participates in long distance running events including ultras. \nThe third session of the event will feature guest speakers: \nDr Simon Cook is a human geographer at Birmingham City University who researches social\, cultural and spatial aspects of running. He runs a bit\, mostly on his commute.  \nCeridwen (Ceri) Howell is a Leader in Running Fitness\, runs Couch to 5K courses and is a masters athlete on the track and longer distances. \nChris Palmer is a Leader in Running Fitness\, runs Couch to 5K courses and is a GB masters sprinter in the M70 category. \n 09:30-10:00 arrival and coffee/tea and pastries  \n10:00-10:45 Session 1  Looking for inspiration to run  \n10:55-11:30 Session 2  “parkrun” as a social and cultural movement  \n11:45-12:45 Session 3:  Round-table discussion and Q&A: Couch to 5k\, run-commuting\,  running for leisure\, health and wellbeing   \nThe event is open to  adults (runners of all distances and those who have never run before but are interested in running). \nYou are welcome to attend any\, or all\, of the 3 sessions!
